The Insane Waiter

Running wild on customers, chefs, owners and managers since 1997. I bring to you, The Insane Waiter. What do bring to your table? A crisp bottle of San Pellegrino ? Perhaps a lovely seared Sashimi Tuna? Start off with a wonderful bottle from Tuscany perhaps? Why I'll be more than happy to bring you your White Zinfandel and Chicken Caesar. No you can't order the mac and cheese off the kids menu and sorry no, we don't serve cheese sticks....

The eve of battle

This is a very ominous night for some of our brethren.  Of course, I speak of the free grand slam breakfast at Denny's tomorrow.

I wish you luck and pray for your survival.  Many of you will not return...know that you are loved, respected, and understood.

Remember - if you have to go out, go out swinging.  Take some of those cheap bastards with you.

If you are going to Denny's tomorrow to get a free breakfast, be gentle and tip well.

Good luck.

Wow. I wonder if people will show up and trample each other. I'm off today. Let's see now, it'll cost about six dollars in gas to get to the nearest Denny's and back, and what's a Grand Slam go for...?

Seriously. They ran a promotion ten or so years ago where you got a free meal on your birthday. I was on a long distance drive so I stopped in. Man, that was some unappetizing looking food they served me. And it didn't taste any better than it looked.

Thank GOD I didn't have to work that morning!!! It was bad enough the night before with no less than 300 calls about whether it was 'really true' that we were doing it, and 300 calls Tuesday night about whether it was still going on.

Good lord.

Hey Steve,

I just read your book and I must say "Congratulations"!!!! What a fantastic novel! I've been a faithful reader of your blog for many years (almost since inception), and your book was such a natural extension to the blog. It provided deeper insight to many of your old co-workers/bosses, as well as providing a deeper look at you/yourself. This was an extremely enjoyable book to read. I've forwarded your website to many of the local (seattle) radio talkshow hosts, in the hopes that they will put you on to talk about your book..

Looking forward to your next post!

Dave - This is chowda (guest blogger for insane) I don't think insane has a book out...yet. If you're referring to waiter rant, yes that is a great book and a wonderful blog. It's the best book on waiting tables...I would say it's better than mine, but mine is a whole other genre. It's more of a how-to/tongue in cheek as to what to expect while working in a restaurant; sex in the walk-in, drinking on the job, etc.

Glad you like insane's blog, though.

just going thru some old posts - I did go to this, I was nice to my waitstaff, and I left a tip bigger than the cost of the meal I was comped. Waiter blogs do work! I was stunned, not by the hour wait, but by the masses of children age 6-18 at 11 am on a schoolday.
