Perhaps a lovely seared Sashimi Tuna? Start off with a wonderful bottle from Tuscany perhaps? Why I'll be more than happy to bring you your White Zinfandel and Chicken Caesar. No you can't order the mac and cheese off the kids menu and sorry no, we don't serve cheese sticks....

Back in Black

So the easy way out for me would be to delete this blog...

All it would take is a click.

Well I've never been about taking the easy way out.

Plus love me or hate me, I get a reaction out of this site from the readers and maybe a little peace with venting my frusterations.

If I get in trouble at work for calling out a shitty tipper (Zero on 170) on my own free time then so be it.

It's only a restaurant job, there's others out there.

I never dropped names or any other information, never meant to personally insult anyone, only to point out the silly shit people pull and how they act in public.

Sometimes that backfires and I'm then one that looks bad, oh well is what I say.

Luck is strange that one of the few people that read this in Iowa was actually a party and recognized.

I guess I was a little to specific and that was my mistake.

I don't know if you stumbled upon this or have been a reader for a bit, I'd rather not be harassed at work by either the malicious or well intentioned, either way.

If you feel that's something that has to be done, well its a free country, you're entitled to state your peace and so am I.

It's not red alert and dive, dive.

Sometimes the shit hits the fan and either you stand up and take it or duck.

New posts up Weds.

Stand time.

Insane waiter guy,

Did you take down the post that outed you? 'Cause I was curious, what day was it posted on?

Like Tom Petty said,

"Well I won’t back down, no I won’t back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won’t back down

Gonna stand my ground, won’t be turned around
And I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won’t back down"

Stand tall, waiter. Stand tall.

This would be a tough choice for me. I have never had anyone figure out who I am, but I did screw up the other day and sent someone an email that had my name in it. I was pissed for being so clumsy.

If it happens to me I think I will be like you and stand.

I'm kind of disappointed that you opted to delete a post. Sure, it might have been a bit too specific, but you said what had to be said, which is why you have this blog in the first place. Censoring someone else's stuff is one thing, but when you cross the line and censor your own, it shows a bit of cowardice. Just like with email or IM or whatever, don't hit send (or post, whatever) unless you're fine with what you wrote and won't regret it later.

I blog drunk all the time, and some of the shit may be way out there, but regardless, I've never even considered taking back what I said. Drunk or sober, if you can't handle your own actions, why even bother?

Don't let it get you down.

Be more careful in future.

If this 'person' wants to 'out' you or whatever - he might. Who cares? Life is too short to be worried about such things.

Love the blog - keep it up.

If the offended person wants to attack you and your job, I say name names. He could have stayed anonymous if he didn't try to get you fired.

I've been following this blog for months, and in the industry for years. Keep it up. You've done nothing wrong, nor dropped any names to breach privacy.

Keep it alive.

OK people, attack away at me if you must. I was the one that "outed" this blogger. I regret that, because that was never my intention, I would never want him fired because he is great at his job.

Honestly, I wish I never would have said the name of the resturant. Also, I wasn't defending my friend's actions because he was dead wrong on not tipping, that is one bad trait. I was just trying to defend my friends overall character because overall believe it or not, he may cheap and ignorant when it comes to the rules of tipping anyone, but overall he is a great person.

Insane, whether or not it seemed like it, my actions were well intentioned. I have been reading your blog for awhile and thoroughly enjoy it, it just hit close to home. I think you are a great at your job and I am glad you are continuing to post.

Sorry for being an ass.

Insane,

I see you are approving comments prior to posting. I am honestly VERY sorry that I brought you to that point.

I SWEAR to you, (take that for what you want, I'm sure you are questioning my character, don't blame you) I will not be mentioning "the resturant" or anything else in my posts. I have no ill intentions towards you.

I will be continuing to read your blog, regardless if you post my comments, because I do find you very entertaining and enjoy reading your points of view.

Sorry I put a good person through all this.

I want to know which posting it was you are refering to. If Waiterrant doesn't tell; some else speak up!

My friend was just horrible to a waitress who was having a bad day due to the chef...so what does my friend do? Takes it out on the waitress....stupied, I won't go out with her anymore and haven't since that time. I HAVE been a waitress and I know how it is. To make up the stupidness, I left her a big tip.

keep up the good fight. someone has to let the world know that it's not ok to treat service industry people like crap.

Dang !

I thought the "outing" was an April Fool.

Either way, I'm glad he's keeping the blog going.

At 11:48 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

nate, I read your "out" post, and it didn't seem mailicious at all, but I don't get how you could so casually drop such a huge bomb on a blog you've been reading for a while. Haven't you noticed that it's an anonymous blog?

I am so sorry that someone saw fit to make your life more difficult. Why on Earth can't people just let things sit? And why don't people understand how shaky the ground is for some waitstaff is as far as employment and such? Isn't it enough that you get treated like crap? Do they have to take it to the next level? Nate, maybe you meant well, but please consider the consequences of your actions next time.

Yeah, bloggers should be aware that their posts are public and maybe they should censor accordingly for fear of offending anyone. It may make everyone happy and not offended. :rolls eyes: What a blogger posts is what a blogger posts. Unless your name and address or something is posted, your response was not justified. Perhaps your friend is a wonderful person, but that's not the version your waiter saw. A person can only go by what they see of a person's actions. Insane Waiter did not see the best version of your friend. You have. Good for you.

You know that eye for an eye thing? What you did was an eye, an ear, and an arm for an eye. Uncalled for and cruel.

Nate,

I've seen it posted elsewhere, and I believe it, "If a person's nice to you, and they're not nice to the waiter, they're not a nice person."

Just a customer comment.

Ageed. What I did was far beyond out of line. I sincerely apologize and besides that I don't know what else to do besides be very careful in the future.

Insane-

What happened is a shame and there's no real comfort in any outcome from this other than the proverbial "Lesson Learned". That sucks. Hope you keep up the blog. I read it often!

At 10:27 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nate, please go away.

You have nothing more to contribute.

At 11:06 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nate, I hope sometime, somewhere, someone comes to where you work and gives you a very hard time and you just have to sit back and take the abuse without being able to fight back. I hope that person then complains to your boss and demands that you be fired. You'll understand what a crappy thing you have done then.

At 7:21 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nephew Dude:

I've been out of commission this past week and so it's only today (Sat., Apr. 8, '06) that I've caught up with your blog again.

That Nate is an ABUSIVE SHIT. Actually, the technical term is that he suffers from an "abusive syndrome." Does somthing chickenshit like he did, and then apologizes profusely and swears it won't happen again.

Recall I posted to you on this blog sometime back that your blog was going to attract its share of maladjusted types. (Whatever happened to that burned out coke-head? 'Manager' something or other?)

I hope you're doing well.

Hang in there.

And banish that sorry ass from your blog.

Love,

Uncle R.

P.S.---Readers who'd like to get to know "Nater" better are referred to The Des Moines Register Juice Blog of 'Photo Junkie.'

does no one see that he appologized?

(well not noone, a few reasonable and mature people have noted it..)

realistically insane is publishing his thoughts and rants in a PUBLIC FORUM. as in, avaible to all, read by all, and accessable by all. with that comes responsibility.

someone outed him. big deal. if he's a good as he says he is, this blog shouldn't affect anything...unless he's being bitter, angry and petty...oh wait.
:)

nate did a bad thing.
and then owned up to it and said sorry.

none of us has to forgive him, or condem him. that's for insane to do.

i'm sure insane digs the support. and i'm not saying he shouldn't get it.
just lighten up on nate.
he err'ed.
so i suppose he's human.

but also recognize that this is a publication. that has no bounds. it's not password protected, has no security to ensure only a selected portion of people get to read it. he's broadcasting to the WORLD.
and he made a mistake.

insane needs to learn a lesson from this as well...
either be okay to be found out, or sit on your stories long enough (like waiter does) so that you can't be found out.

no cake and eating it for you!

/rant.
